The Institute of Oceanography currently consists of 9 specialized departments, 2 functional departments, 3 monitoring stations (Nha Trang, Can Gio and Kien Giang) and an Oceanographic Museum. With 163 experts in many fields, including 2 Professors, 3 Associate Professors, 33 Doctors, 58 Masters and 50 Engineers/Bachelor of Science.

Introduction
The Institute of Oceanography was established under Decision No. 23/KHCNQG-QD dated June 19, 1993 of the Director of the National Center for Natural Sciences and Technology (now the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) regulating the tasks, powers and organizational structure of the Institute of Oceanography.
The Institute of Oceanography is responsible for conducting basic research, fundamental surveys, technology development, and the training of highly qualified human resources in the field of oceanography and its related disciplines, in accordance with legal regulations.
